i bought a set of gortex socks from my local army surplace place for £8..

the guy said they were 100% water proof ( i didn't believe him) so when i got home i slipped them on over my normal socks and promptly stood in a bath of cold water (my miss,s couldn't believe her eyes) ..

i would like to report they are 100% water proof.. ideal when your most compfy boots ain't:D

if you want to see how they work i,e moisture going out . boil your kettle and let it cool a little . then fill the sock with the water , you will then see the steam come through the pores but no water coming out . this is how i was taught to check my socks where not leaking and it is also the way w.l gore will test them if you send them back if you suspect they are leaking ( mate and his dad work at w.l gore) . try it its cool . i have a gore glove liner here and that is how we used to do it too. we got the glove liners and socks when we went on the bi-annual gore social club weekend hill walking trips .

I have to agree with Matt on this, I bought my first pair just recently and since my tracker training in 2010 I tend to wear trainers when 'Low Level' to track in... either Merrels or Hightec... The goretex socks have proved invaluable... I'm pleased with them and pleasantly surprised...

Matt, I've been looking for these on ebay and can only find up to size 6! It's either that or the sealskin ones for £20 which I can't afford.
I need size 10, does this shop have a website? All my boots are rubbish at keeping out the wet:mad:

I've been hunting about for a pair of these for a while, but so far no joy in finding my size, 9-9 1/2, at a price I like e.g. a tenner or less.

A nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Just had a look on Gould's, no joy there either:(
