I am very pleased to announce our very first Bushcraft Forum competition.

We are in the very privileged position to be able to offer all of our members the chance to win one of two hammocks courtesy of two of the worlds leading manufacturers.

    The two hammocks are:

    DD Hammock Frontline

    Warbonnet Blackbird double layer

The hammocks have been very kindly offered to us by their individual manufacturers for review, where two reviewers will spend one night each in each of them and then they will be up for grabs. Please make no mistake, these really are some of the best bits of kit that money can buy and if you have never slept in a hammock then do yourself a favour and enter. All you have to do is answer the following question...

"You have just received a hammock that you won in a competition and promptly set off to the nearest forest to set it up. Before long you are swinging gently in the breeze under a beautiful starlit sky. Being a master of all that is bushcraft you try to work out which direction the breeze is blowing to give you an idea of the coming weather but to do this you need to know which direction is North. You follow the line from two stars and find Polaris, the North Star, and find that the wind is coming from the West. What are the names of the two stars which you used to find the North Star?"

Answers to be sent to Woodland via PM, please include your name, address and a contact number.

Closing date: 20th April 2012(comp now closed)

Winners will be contacted by pm....and then posted on the site
each winner will need to reveiw the hammock and post it on this site

Look out for our review on the two hammocks, coming up towards the end of may.

the admin would like to thank all the members that took part in the comp.....

the 2 winner,s are pheeb,s and kernowek scouser....your hammocks will be with you within 7 days..

    well done guys and girls

    YES

This is the first time in ages I've actually won anything and a hammock is a tasty bit of gear, I'll definitely make good use of.

I'll be heading off to work shortly with a big smile on my face, I am well made up :)

    Cheers,

    Colin

Just got in from work and there was a hammock waiting for me.

Monsoon like rain has prevented me hanging it up in the garden (so far) but I found two suitable hanging points indoors and had a go.

    It is ACE :)

Will have a proper go of it over the weekend, take a few pics and write a little review of how I get on.

    Cheers,

    Colin

As I'm only 5'8" and it is a big hammock, I'll probably only be able to view whatever is above me

Seriously though, my first impression is very good. I'm a relative novice when it comes to camping hammocks and I had it hung up, indoors, in under two mins (granted some of the knots I used are probably not officially recognised ones with actual names) and it packed away just as easily, so it has proven to be fairly idiot proof :) ...so far

I've got a Basha on order to go with it, which will hopefully be here before the weekend, so If I have a bit of a practice doing 'proper' knots between now and then, I shouldn't struggle too much, putting it up in the woods.

I'm really looking forward to having a proper go at the weekend :D

    Review to follow

Cheers, might have a look at one myself. I tried to snipe a genuine double size NATO issue basha on ebay the other day (proper sniping myself, not some sniping site:p) but was outbid by about a fiver.

I am still undecided on whether to get a British army one, a DD 3x3m one or a Polish army two man tent/poncho:confused:

Might find that basha too short for the hammock, my hammock is over 9' so I got a 3mx4m so my feet don't get wet :)

    I've just checked the dimensions.
    Hammock 2.7 meters long
    Basha 2.4 meters long.

It looks like wet ends could well be a possibility, Bugger!

Oh well, if it is too short, I'll get a DD tarp for my birthday.

For reference, where did you get your 3m x 4m from Gazo?

And have you ever tried the camping of the floor option, with your hammock?

Hi mate got mine from TW hammocks. my hammock is new also TW not tried it yet but it has 3 layers bottom one being ripstop waterproof for when it is used on the floor.

TW can be found on ebay only they dont have a site but you can email the owner Neil who is a great guy and he will help you out with any thing you want.

Another reason I went for the TW tarp is because it has D rings inside so you can tie your mozzy net to it so the cord stays inside the tarp.
